The European Day of Justice is being celebrated in Azerbaijan annually, but this year it was celebrated remarkably broader than previously on October 25, 2019. Beside celebrations inbound the Azerbaijani Justice representatives conducted activities out of country as well.

The courts of our Republic as it was last year announced the “open door” day with the free legal aid provided. But in addition to previous years’ activities this year the citizens were polled on the quality of judicial system and their expectations on innovations in courts were asked. Visitors also were educated on Human Rights protection and European Day of Justice.

The more detailed talks and explanations were provided to courts staff on mechanisms of respect of human rights based on national and international experience and reforms conducted in a country since its independence.

As it was last year, the European Day of Justice celebration held in regional courts, military, administrative and economy, serious crimes courts.

Also, The European Day of Justice were celebrated in educational institutions with the contribution of Justice Academy of Azerbaijan:

- Baku Court of Appeal organized 4-hour seminar for 66 candidates successfully passed qualification exams to Judicial authorities informing them on the role and importance of human rights respect and protection, European Day of Justice, especially CEPEJ’s role on increase of justice effectiveness by explaining them CEPEJ’s tools and mechanisms, etc.

- For the students of Law faculty of the Baku State University the theatrical performance portraying the judicial process with the participation of judges, Bar Association members and volunteers were organized.  By this, students who are going to be the part of justice system were explained the ways of effective justice administration and the importance of human rights protection in their future occupation.  

Also, The Bar Association of Azerbaijan took participation in a campaign of the European Day of Justice by providing free legal aid to low-income people with a lower level of legal awareness. Thus, the law officers-members of Bar Association received the citizens in regions and big cities of country.

On October 23, 2019, the President of the Commission on the Effectiveness of Justice of the Council of Europe (CEPEJ), Professor of the Department of Civil and Legal Disciplines of the Plehanov REU, PHD in Law Ramin Gurbanov gave a lecture to students of the 4th year of the Faculty of Economics and Law with specialization of of jurisprudence. The lecture was attended by: Head of the Department of Civil and Legal Disciplines of REU named after G.V. Plehanov, Professor Kurbanov R.A., Associate Professor of the Department of Civil and Legal Disciplines of the REU Svechnikova N.V, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil and Legal Disciplines Moiseyev A.N.

In his lecture Mr. Ramin Gurbanov talked with students on celebration of The European Day Of Justice on October 25 as well as informed about the upcoming European Crystal Scales of Justice prize award ceremony to be attended by him in Oslo on October 25.

Also Ramin Gurbanov stressed the special importance of the activities of the Legal Clinic under the Department of Civil and Legal Disciplines of the Plehanov REU within the framework of providing free legal assistance to the population and also activities addressed to the training of students . Concluding his speech, Professor R. Gurbanov invited students to participate in the student version of the competition Crystal Scales of Justice, which will be held in 2020 jointly by the Faculty of Law of the University of Strasbourg and the Commission on Justice Efficiency of the Council of Europe (CEPEJ).

In addition to above, The European Day of Justice were broadly enlightened in local press as well as social media pages of State Judicial authorities.
