Investigators, judges and prosecutors in the Republic of Moldova discuss investigation, prosecution and adjudication of corruption offences

The Council of Europe in partnership with the National Institute of Justice, in the framework of the project “Action against Corruption in the Republic of Moldova – Phase 2”, launched series of training sessions covering the topic of “Investigation, Prosecution, and Adjudication of Corruption Acts and Related Offenses”, dedicated to investigators, judges and prosecutors.

The sessions were held between 10-17 December 2024 and were designed to enhance and further develop the capacities of relevant public institutions in Moldova, involved in the investigation, prosecution and adjudication of corruption offences. Participants included representatives from Moldova’s National Anticorruption Centre, the Internal Protection and Anti-Corruption Service (Ministry of Internal Affairs), prosecutor’s offices, and members of the judiciary from the Chisinau and other regional courts.

The sessions, led by international and national experts in the investigation and prosecution of corruption offences, explored both advanced methodologies and techniques to apply in the investigation of financial aspects of corruption case. Through the application of practical case exercises, the sessions facilitated the ongoing cooperation and collaboration between Moldovan agencies in the management of corruption cases. Consideration of cross-border aspects of corruption cases, and the integral role played by international cooperation with external authorities also formed an integral aspect of these sessions.

These activities formed a part of Moldova’s broader anti-corruption efforts and align with the country’s obligations under the Fourth Evaluation Round of the Council of Europe’s Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) and marks the final deliverable under the project entitled, “Action against Corruption in the Republic of Moldova – Phase 2.

This support is provided within the framework of the project “Action against Corruption in the Republic of Moldova (Phase 2)”, funded by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the US Department of State and implemented by the Council of Europe.
