SNAC2–South Neighbourhood Programme
Promotion of good governance: Fight against corruption and money laundering (SNAC 2)
In January 2015, the European Union and the Council of Europe renewed their commitment to support democratic reforms in the Southern Mediterranean through the launching of a new Joint Programme “Towards Strengthened Democratic Governance in the Southern Mediterranean” for 2015-2017. Endowed with a budget of €7,37 million, the three-year regional programme (January 2015 - 31 December 2017), is primarily directed towards supporting human rights institutions, democratic reform processes and governance structures, as well as fostering cooperation in the area of rule of law and consolidation of a common legal space between Europe and the Southern Mediterranean.
As part of the South Programme II, the Council of Europe is implementing the South Neighbourhood Anti-Corruption Project (SNAC2), supporting countries in the region in combating corruption, money laundering and terrorism financing. Based on results of the preceding SNAC 1 project (2012-2014), cooperation will continue with Morocco, Tunisia and Jordan. A larger regional component will promote exchange of best practices and establishment of informal networks between competent authorities of Southern Mediterranean and Middle East countries with Council of Europe member States.
