- Description
- Grotte Chauvet 2 Ardèche is a replica of the Chauvet Cave, famous for its cave paintings (www.prehistour.eu/carp-guide/grotte-chauvet-2).
In the heart of the Ardèche, the Grotte Chauvet 2 Ardèche is the largest decorated cave replica in the world . The original Chauvet Cave, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, contains an extraordinary collection of prehistoric paintings, drawings, and engravings that are faithfully reproduced in the replica . In the depths of a cave, the first artists in the history of Humanity created a masterpiece: horses, lions, rhinos and other animals, captured in time, running, hunting and in full confrontation. Some 36 000 years later, engineers and artists accomplished a unique feat by replicating the artwork and geological context of the original cave: what is now known as the Grotte Chauvet 2 Ardèche. This extraordinary collection of paintings and engravings is now visible to all and allows the visitor to share the emotions of the original discovery.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Cave of Pont d’Arc is managed by the Grotte Chauvet 2 Ardèche Operating Company, SERCPA (Société d’Exploitation de la République - Grotte Chauvet 2 Ardèche, SERCPA EURL).
