The CYBERKOP Action of the Octopus Project is taking a significant step toward tackling the challenges associated with virtual currencies, by supporting the Financial Intelligence Unit of Kosovo* to organise a joint three-day workshop on cryptocurrencies, from 24-26 September 2024.
Bringing together financial intelligence experts, law enforcement, prosecutors, and the Central Bank, the event is focusing on strengthening participants’ skills and knowledge on virtual currencies, Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs), and tools for tracing and confiscating illicit virtual currency transactions.
The workshop is structured into two distinct tracks: the first one focusing on legislative, regulatory, and licensing aspects, deepening participants’ comprehension of legal frameworks surrounding virtual currencies, whereas the second one covering operational and investigative components, equipping them with the skills to seize virtual assets and handle criminal cases involving cryptocurrencies.
By participating in the specialised sessions of the workshop, the participants will get deeper understanding of international standards and tools, such as Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and Council of Europe’s Guide on seizing cryptocurrencies. Furthermore, through practical case studies, participants are gaining hands-on experience, enhancing their ability to apply these concepts to real-world scenarios.
The workshop is also fostering cross-agency cooperation to enhance Kosovo’s response to virtual currency-related crimes and ensure alignment with international standards under the Convention on Cybercrime (Budapest Convention).
