Virgil SPIRIDON serves as Deputy General Inspector of the Romanian National Police, having responsibilities for fighting against organized crime, counterterrorism and financial crimes and for ensuring the international cooperation on behalf of the Romanian National Police. He was the head of the Romanian National Cyber Crime Unit from 2003 to 2012, where he created and developed the Cybercrime Unit in Romania and established the cybercrime and e-evidence strategy for the Romanian National Police.
Virgil used to be the Head of Operations of the Cybercrime Programme Office based in Bucharest for five years being responsible for managing the cybercrime projects on capacity building of the Council of Europe.
He was the driver of the EMPACT projects on Cybercrime and Credit card fraud for six years, leading the EU member states in coordinating the operational efforts to tackle these problems.
