Retour Initiatives on legislation at parliamentary level

Italy is currently carrying discussions on parliamentary legislative initiatives. Among these, the bill. 1447 for the establishment of the National Day in memory of journalists killed while carrying out their profession.
The text provides that May 3 of each year, the day on which the United Nations General Assembly has celebrated World Press Freedom Day since 1993, be recognized in Italy as a national day in memory of the journalists killed as a result of their profession.

On this occasion the State, the Regions, the Provinces, the Metropolitan cities and the Municipalities can promote, also in cooperation with the associations and bodies operating in the sector, specific initiatives, ceremonies, conferences, public meetings and other activities aimed at enhancing the freedom of the press and the role played by information. Furthermore, educational institutions can promote educational initiatives to commemorate journalists killed because of their activities and to deepen knowledge of the professional activity of journalists and the content of the art. 21 of the Italian Constitution, which protects freedom of the press.
