The Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers adopted a new Council of Europe Gender Equality Strategy for 2024-2029 on 6 March 2024, which has now been translated into Ukrainian. This six-year strategy will guide the work of the Council of Europe and its member states, including Ukraine, toward achieving greater gender equality.
The Gender Equality Strategy focuses on six key objectives:
- Preventing and combating gender stereotypes and sexism
- Preventing and combating violence against women and girls and domestic violence
- Ensuring women equal access to justice
- Achieving a balanced participation of women and men in political, public, social, and economic life
- Ensuring women’s empowerment and gender equality in relation to global and geopolitical challenges
- Achieving gender mainstreaming and including an intersectional approach in all policies and measures
The work of the Council of Europe prioritises the promotion of gender equality, as seen in its 2023-2026 Action Plan for Ukraine, "Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction".
The Council of Europe’s Gender Equality Strategy has been translated into Ukrainian under the “Promoting Gender Equality in Ukraine” project.
