From 21 to 24 June, a training course on human rights education with young Roma and non-Roma people, youth leaders and activists was organised in Tirana by Roma Veritas Albania in cooperation with the Council of Europe Youth Department within the Human Rights Education Youth Programme.
This activity enhanced the competences of 20 young Roma and non-Roma people, youth leaders and activists to protect human rights by identifying and counteracting human rights violations in their communities. The core of the programme was democratic participation as a means to stand against discrimination and antigypsyism in Albania. It corresponds to corner stone of the National Action Plan for Equality, Inclusion, and Participation of Roma and Egyptians (2021-2025) and the National Youth Strategy (2022-2029).
By strengthening the capacity of young Roma and non-Roma people and activists human rights education and addressing antigypsyism, this training course contributed to the implementation of the Recommendation CM/Rec(2023)4 on Roma Youth Participation.
In addition to the sessions based on non-formal education methods from Compass, the participants had discussions with representatives from the Youth Department of the Council of Europe, the Council of Europe Office in Tirana, the National Youth Congress, the Cabinet of the Minister of State for Youth and Children, including members of the Joint Council on Youth delegated from Albania.
