Approximately 134 judges and prosecutors enhanced their knowledge on reasoning of criminal judgments and right to liberty and security through an in-service training activity in Konya, organised on 13-14 January 2023.
In her opening remarks, Ms Pınar Başpınar, as Acting Head of the Council of Europe Programme Office in Ankara, stated that “Together with the Justice Academy of Türkiye, we aim to have approximately 1,500 judges and prosecutors benefiting from the in-service training programme by mid-March 2023. We also continue our training programmes in the fields of combatting against financing terrorism and cybercrime. I would like to express my gratitude to the Justice Academy of Türkiye, which has helped us to reach this point in terms of training such a large number of judges and prosecutors in a short period of time and has supported the project in a determined manner”.
In his address, Mr Muhittin Özdemir, the President of the Justice Academy of Türkiye stated that the “Justice is one of the fundamental values that sustain a state and a nation. The training of judges and prosecutors is important enough to change the fate of justice and the judiciary.".
Local media representatives have shown great interest in the event.
This activity was organised under the EU/CoE Joint Project “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations”.
