Promoting Equality in Azerbaijan: Key Stakeholders Unite in Baku to Drive Change

On 7 June 2023, the first meeting of the Technical Committee for the "Promoting Equality in Azerbaijan" project was successfully held in Baku. The meeting served as a platform for representatives from various key project stakeholders to converge and discuss the forthcoming activities, expected outcomes, and implementation timelines.

The Technical Committee comprised representatives from the Ombudsperson's office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union Delegation, and civil society organizations. The committee members expressed their strong commitment to actively engage in project activities and support the Ombudsperson's efforts and combating all forms of discrimination, fostering a deeper comprehension of equality, non-discrimination, and hate speech, as well as raising awareness about tolerance within the general public. The participants emphasized the importance of promoting equality and highlighted the crucial role of collaboration between governmental authorities and civil society organizations. Recognizing that a joint effort between these entities would yield more effective results and enable the message of equality to reach a wider audience.

Through joint collaboration and proactive engagement, the stakeholders strive to create an environment where discrimination is challenged, and the ideals of equality are maintained throughout society.

This event was organised within the framework of the project on “Promoting Equality in Azerbaijan”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe, in their Partnership for Good Governance.
