The recent migrant boat shipwreck in Italy has put even higher on the national agenda the need to have a stronger and clearer governance on integration policies. And a more effective policy coordination between national and local administrations and social and economic actors is the main expected result of the project Reinforcing Multi-level policy coordination for integration in Italy, which staged its first Technical Coordination Meeting on 8 March 2023.

Participants from the Italian Ministry of Labour and Social Policies, the European Commission Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support and from the Council of Europe joined online to discuss strategies and approaches to implement the bi-annual project workplan.

An ambitious programme including a blueprint for an improved coordination mechanism for the integration of third country nationals, a series of policy briefs on topics such as labour, education, housing and specific measures for vulnerable groups for migrants, as well a pilot for the setup of one-stop shops services addressing the different needs of the migrants in one location are the expected results of the project, which will last till September 2024.

The project is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, which is the implementing entity.
