The workshop “Integration and participation practices for foreign citizens: Role and action of local institutions: priorities, challenges and opportunities” represented an opportunity to discuss good practices enhancing the integration of third-country nationals (TNCs) in Italy with relevant actors.

Main objective of the meeting was reviewing and discussing a policy paper on integration and participation practices for citizens with migrant background, which was consolidated with the inputs of all participants.

Participants were representatives of municipalities, the academia, governmental and non governmental organisations dealing with migrant issues, CSOs; their participation and interaction was facilitated by the consultancy ICEI - Istituto Cooperazione Economica Internazionale, that developed the draft policy brief as well.

The workshop, attended by around 25 people, was structured into three different moments: institutional greetings and presentation of the draft policy brief; working groups on the macro-areas of activity identified by the Policy brief (Mapping, Training, Special services, Communications and Networking), discussion and report in plenary.

The event took place on 23 May 2023 at Spazio Europa, a public space in the center of Rome run by the Information Office of the European Parliament for Italy, and by European Commission Representation in Italy.

The initiative was organised within the project Reinforcing multi-level policy coordination for integration in Italy, co-funded by the European Union and implemented by the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the European Commission and the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies of Italy.
