Projects by geographical area
Eastern partnership countries
The Division’s projects in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine address issues of criminal justice reform, national case law harmonisation, human rights training of legal professionals, capacity building of national human rights institutions, combatting ill-treatment and discrimination. The Division is also working with Belarus on key human rights topics.
South-East Europe and Turkey
Currently the Division is providing support to the authorities of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Kosovo*, Montenegro, Morocco, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey in their endeavor to protect human rights. The focus is on issues such as non-discrimination, freedom of expression, the fight against impunity and the implementation of human rights action plans, which were highlighted by Council of Europe monitoring mechanisms as areas of concern in the respective countries.
European Union
The European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals in the 28 European Union Member States (HELP in the 28) supports legal professionals from the EU in acquiring the knowledge and skills on how to refer to the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (the Charter), the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the European Social Charter (ESC).
