The CPT carried out a periodic visit to the Slovak Republic from 28 November to 8 December 2023 during which the delegation also assessed the treatment of and legal safeguards afforded to foreign nationals held at Medveďov Immigration Detention Facility.

Further, the CPT carried out an ad hoc visit to France from 28 November to 14 December 2023 covering the regional territories of Guadeloupe and French Guiana. The visit notably provided an opportunity for the Committee to examine the treatment and safeguards afforded to foreign nationals deprived of their liberty under immigration law. To this end, the delegation visited the immigration detention centre in Guadeloupe (“Les Abymes”) as well as the following establishments in French Guiana: the immigration detention centre in Cayenne-Rochambeau (Matoury), border police facilities at Félix Eboué International Airport and immigration detention premises in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni and Saint-Georges de l'Oyapock.
