European Youth Centre Strasbourg hosts intensive programme on culture, health, migration, religion and education

From 15 to 19 April, the European Youth Centre Strasbourg is hosted 40 young people for a study session “United in Diversity - Youth educating Young Catholic Students” organised by the JECI-MIEC, in cooperation with the Youth Department of the Council of Europe.

The intensive programme included topics such as culture, health, migration, religion and education, but also the Catholic approach to diversity and its connections to human rights education, as well as interactive social programme, exploring Strasbourg and making new friends.

The study session also focused on:

  • Experiencing intercultural dialogue and intercultural learning amongst the participants;
  • Understanding the importance, power and influence of diversity and multiculturalism in society and its advantages;
  • Understanding the topic from a historical, economic and social perspective;
  • Communicating the responsibilities and duties young catholic people in Europe have in regard to promote and advocate for inclusion and rights for everyone;
  • Presenting European policies and projects on the subject;
  • Developing interest of the organisations and JECI-MIEC in projects developed around the theme;
  • Creating a people network between countries;
  • Encouraging participants to take part and act in the social affairs.

In addition, it aimed to raise awareness on diversity and its impacts on everyday life of young people. The participants explored democracy and human rights through intercultural dialogue and intercultural learning to better understand different aspect of multiculturalism, identifying the ways to support diversity and equality. They also went through activities from manuals Compass and Education pack All Different All Equal to further identify how marginalised communities can be supported by young people and Catholic students.
