HELP seminar in Poland for European legal professionals assisting Ukrainian refugees

On 27 September 2022, the Council of Europe, European Union and the UNHCR in cooperation with Warsaw Bar Association organised together a seminar in Warsaw for Ukrainian legal professionals and Asylum/Migration HELP e-Desk national managers on the European legal practices and procedures with a focus on the assistance to Ukrainian refugees.

The seminar addressed main challenges and best practices linked to the implementation of the EU Temporary Protection Directive, the protection of children and family reunification, key themes and challenges related to legal advice in Ukraine as well as access to legal information and assistance to refugees.

Apart of legal experts from Ukraine and from hosting EU member states, the event brought together experts from the European Commission Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs, European Union Agency for Asylum, UNHCR Regional Bureau for Europe and Polish office, as well as representatives of the Polish Bar Association.

The seminar was organised within the Council of Europe Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) project “Supporting contextualisation of HELP modules/courses for legal professionals in times of war in Ukraine” and as a follow-up to the fact-finding visit to Poland of the Special Representative on Migration and Refugees (SRSG) and in line with the Council of Europe Action Plan on Protecting Vulnerable Persons in the Context of Migration Asylum in Europe (2021-2025).
