Execution Department’s participation in UNHCR meeting in Budapest

On 22 March 2019, a representative of the Department for the Execution of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights participated in UNHCR’s annual meeting in Budapest which brought together protection and legal officers working all around Europe.

She gave a presentation on the practice and procedure of the Committee of Ministers (CM) including an overview of pending asylum, expulsion and immigration detention related cases and of key measures taken or underway in European states to implement relevant judgments of the Strasbourg Court.

A discussion was held on the potential optimal timing and contents of Rule 9 communications by UNHCR to the CM to maximise their impact throughout the supervision process.
