Retour SRSG opens public lecture on refugee rights for aspiring Moldovan judges, prosecutors and auditors

A public lecture on refugee rights for the students of the National Institute of Justice was given by Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova, Marko Shevchenko, and the Director of the General Inspectorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mihail Voda.

The event opened with a video address by Leyla Kayacik, Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) of the Council of Europe on Migration and Refugees. She hailed the exemplary solidarity of the Moldovan authorities and host communities in protecting people fleeing Ukraine and  praised the Government's recent decision to grant temporary protection to displaced persons, thereby facilitating their access to education, employment and basic services.

The lecture aimed to provide detailed information to future judges and prosecutors on the rights of refugees in the context of temporary protection, as well as on the status of diplomatic relations between Chisinau and Kiyv.

It was held at the National Institute of Justice in partnership with the Council of Europe project “Strengthening the human rights protection of refugees and migrants in the Republic of Moldova”, implemented under Action Plan on Protecting Vulnerable Persons in the Context of Migration and Asylum in Europe (2021-2025).
