Sexual exploitation and child abuse is one of the most hidden forms of violence. One of the key priorities of the Council of Europe is the development of child-friendly justice, prevention of violence against children in a digital or real environment.
A three-day meeting was held between authorities’ civil society and stakeholders to analyze the existing gaps in justice and for identification of detailed needs of the state authorities. Meeting was chaired by Council of Europe’s experts Ms. Bistra Netkova and Ms. Anna Arganashvili.
A report prepared within the framework of the assessment visit will look at relevant elements to be pursued in regard to child sexual exploitation and abuse in Georgia. The report will look at substantive and procedural law, but also at practices and awareness levels regarding the phenomenon. It will be based on the Lanzarote and Budapest Conventions of the Council of Europe and take into account relevant European and international instruments.
The visit was carried out within the support of the Council of Europe project - “Ensuring child-friendly justice in Georgia: preventing and protecting children from violence, including in the digital environment.”
