Council of Europe continues to support Georgian Bar Association

A Strategy drafting workshop took place on 31 August -1 September in Kakheti, Georgia, bringing together the GBA Executive Board, the GBA Ethics Commission, various Committee representatives  and international organisations, to contribute to a discussions on the 2018-2022 Strategic Development Plan for the GBA.

The workshop was a follow up to the needs assessment analysis that put together qualitative data based on questionnaires and focus groups interviews held with following stakeholders: NGOs, lawyer association and public sector representatives.  As a result, a number of recommendations were drawn up with a view to improving the quality of legal education, enhance transparent functioning of the GBA, and strengthen lawyers’ ethical conduct.

"As a result of this workshop, our association should work much more effectively, which means more active and professionally engaging the justice system reforms, by tackling modern challenges at both management and communication levels," noted Davit Asatiani, Chairman of the GBA.

The joint activity was supported by the UNDP/EU Access to Justice Project and the Council of Europe project “Support to the Judicial Reform in Georgia” funded by the voluntary contributions of Bulgaria, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Norway, the Slovak Republic and Sweden to support the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2016-2019.
