Medical personnel of the Temporary Detention Isolators (TDI) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) participated in a 3-day training session on “Quality healthcare service delivery and interviewing techniques for victims of ill-treatment”.

Participants increased their knowledge on relevant standards of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) on healthcare service delivery in closed institutions, communication with victims of ill-treatment, as well as national legislation and regulations on medical, psychological and other relevant services. As a result, the TDIs’ medical staff members are better prepared to treat detainees in a human rights’ compliant manner and provide access to adequate healthcare services.

This activity was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Human Rights Compliant Policing in Georgia” (HRCPG) which is designed to address the issues related to effective policing in line with human rights standards, the rights of detained persons and their treatment by police, the treatment of juvenile victims and offenders as well as effective investigation into alleged ill-treatment by police and effective remedies against police misconduct.
