Strengthening national policies on social and economic rights of people with disabilities

A round table discussion in Tbilisi placed a spotlight on key findings from a Needs Assessment Report on the Social and Economic Rights of People with Disabilities in Georgia. It identifies key gaps in national policies on social and economic rights of people with disabilities and offers recommendations for reform.

Bringing together representatives of various institutions, civil society organisations, and international partners, the event fostered dynamic discussion on improving social protection, access to services, and economic opportunities for people with disabilities. Participants’ valuable insights and feedback will be used to inform the final report, reinforcing a collaborative approach to addressing these critical issues.

Based on the extensive research, a fact-finding mission, and consultations with key stakeholders and people with disabilities, the report will provide a roadmap for aligning Georgia’s policies with the European Social Charter. It will urge action particularly on independence, social integration, and full participation in society, as provided by Article 15 of the Charter. Both the report and discussions will call for meaningful reforms that enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities, ensuring compliance with European standards and best practices.

The round table discussion was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Further Enhancement of Social and Economic Rights in Georgia.” The Project is implemented as part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2024-2027.
