Young Equality Ambassadors, representatives from civil society and state institutions becoming multipliers of human rights education

Throughout the week of 1 July 2024, representatives from various CSOs and community-based organisations, Equality Ambassadors, officers from the Public Defender’s Office (PDO), from the Labour Inspection Office, and from other state institutions gathered for a Training of Trainers on Human Rights Education.

The training aimed to provide participants with the skills and tools needed to promote equality, diversity, and address hate speech and discrimination through creative educational methods. The program also highlighted the importance of mentorship in sustaining these efforts. Participants got familiar with Council of Europe manuals such as “Compass,” “Bookmarks,” and “We CAN!” These resources offer practical guidance for organising effective activities that raise awareness about human rights issues and foster inclusive communities.

Reflecting on the training, PDO representative Lika Ghvinjilia expressed satisfaction and optimism, stating:This activity equips human rights professionals with the knowledge and necessary skills to further their work in human rights protection through education”.

The Council of Europe's commitment to promoting human rights education in Georgia underscores its dedication to fostering inclusive societies and combating discrimination. Council of Europe trainers will continue to support and guide participants as they implement these activities in their communities. This ongoing mentorship is essential for empowering participants to advocate effectively for human rights education and drive positive change at the grassroots level.

This activity is implemented in the framework of the Projects “Enhancing Equality and Non-Discrimination in Georgia” and Combating hate speech in Georgia. The Project - “Enhancing Equality and Non-Discrimination in Georgia” is funded through the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2024-2027, while the Project Combating hate speech in Georgia” is part of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe.
