Inter-agency Commission on Gender Equality, Violence against Women and Domestic Violence starts preparations for the GREVIO baseline evaluation process

On 19 October 2019, the Council of Europe in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of Georgia organised a capacity building workshop for members of the Inter-Agency Commission on Gender Equality, Violence against Women and Domestic Violence in Kachreti. The Inter-Agency Commission steers and coordinates implementation of policies related to gender equality and prevention of violence against women in Georgia.

The aim of the workshop was to strengthen the knowledge of the Commission members, coming from line ministries and state agencies, on data collection requirements of the Istanbul Convention and of the Convention monitoring mechanism.

The representatives of ministries involved in the national response to violence against women and domestic violence had an opportunity to gain a better understanding of various stages of the GREVIO baseline evaluation process and data compilation for the state report based on the GREVIO questionnaire. Moreover, participants learnt from the practices and experiences of other countries that have already been monitored by GREVIO.

The Ministry of Justice representative co-chairing the Commission stressed that the workshop was very timely and useful as Georgia will start the monitoring process on the implementation of the Istanbul Convention in 2020. Inter-Agency Commission, as a coordinating body created according to Article 10 of the Istanbul Convention, will be responsible for planning and coordinating preparation of the state report to GREVIO.

The workshop was held in the framework of the project ‘’Preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence in Georgia”.
