Discussing the ways of the efficient investigation and prosecution of hate crime

A two-day workshop on investigation and prosecution of hate crime was held on 18-19 March for representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The training aimed at discussing main challenges impacting efficient investigation and prosecution of hate crime, the possible ways to overcome existing issues with the respect and the support of victims.

Participants were familiarized with international and national standards of investigation and prosecution of hate crimes, basic notions, such as diversity, stereotyping and intolerance; Different models, main documents on investigation, prosecution and sentencing of hate crime based on the European Convention of Human Rights case law were discussed as well.

The event was organised as part of the Council of Europe co-operation project “Fighting Discrimination, Hate Crime and Hate Speech in Georgia”. The project is conducted with the support of the Danish Neighbourhood Programme in Georgia (DANEP) under the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Georgia.
