On 24-25 April 2024, the Quality Label’s team of experts visited Destelheide & Hanenbos youth centre in Belgium to evaluate the fulfilment of the 15 quality criteria of the Quality Label for Youth Centres which the centre has been holding since 2016.
In the framework of the visit, the expert team met with the educational team of the two buildings, in addition to speaking with public authorities responsible for youth policy in Flanders.
The team of experts was welcomed by the Director of the centre, Guy Uyttebroeck and his team to provide an overview of the main developments that have taken place on the premises of Destelheide & Hanenbos since the last evaluation in 2021. The discussions were further enhanced by the participation of representatives from the Department of Culture, Youth and Media and ADJ, the General Service for Youth Tourism in Flanders.
Destelheide & Hanenbos has invested significantly in recent years by expanding their lodging facilities and working spaces with the addition of a new dormitory block and the renovation of existing facilities. With Destelheide focusing on human rights through the arts and Hanenbos through outdoor activities, the two facilities have jointly developed their education programme in recent years.
As a result of the visit, the Quality Label expert team will propose a recommendation to the European Steering Committee for Youth (CDEJ) to prolong the Quality Label for Detelheide & Hanenbos, with the final decision to be taken at the next CDEJ meeting on 21 October 2024.
