Dublin City University hosted the Global Forum 2022 on 16-17 June. The Forum explored how universities across the globe can work to create more just and sustainable democracies. Participants included leaders in educational organisations, representatives of public authorities and officials from local, national and international organisations.
Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris gave a keynote address. Minister of State of European Affairs Thomas Byrne and former Head of the Council of Europe Education Department Sjur Bergan also addressed the conference. Panel discussions covered topics such as how universities can engage in social and racial justice work, how universities can build deeper relationships with local communities, and how academic institutions can interact with the Sustainable Development Goals. The Global Forum was organised by the Global Cooperation for the Democratic Mission of Higher Education, of which the Council of Europe is a member.
