Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has met with United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights in Russia, Mariana Katzarova.
While expressing dismay at unprecedented crackdown on freedoms and repression against civil society, opposition and critics following Russia’s large-scale aggression in Ukraine, the Secretary General underlined how the Council of Europe maintains contacts with Russian human rights defenders.
Moreover, she emphasised the risks of possible erosion of social rights in Russia. The execution of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in respect of the Russian Federation was also discussed.
