The Delegation of the European Union to the Council of Europe serves as the permanent diplomatic representation of the European Union to the Council of Europe. Its mission is to advance the interests of the Union and its 27 Member States within the Council of Europe while joining forces with Council of Europe bodies and institutions to promote human rights, the rule of law and democracy on the European continent and beyond. Its actions and initiatives on the ground always aim to provide concrete benefits to our citizens, in line with the European Union’s core values and principles.
The Permanent Representations of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the United Kingdom to the Council of Europe are diplomatic delegations representing their respective countries in the Committee of Ministers.
They work with various institutions of the Organisation, such as the European Court of Human Rights, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Commissioner for Human Rights and the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities. They also collaborate with the delegations of other Member States and engage with civil society organisations to collectively make the Council of Europe as effective and efficient an organisation as possible.
