"Town twinning, synonymous with exchange, dialogue, cooperation and solidarity, is an excellent way to contribute to the sustainability of cities," said Congress President Anders Knape at the International Town Twinning Summit - TWINT Online, on 12 November 2020.
"The first step for successful twinning is understanding that we all have common problems and interests, stemming from our responsibilities towards citizens. We can only be stronger in carrying out our duties if we exchange and cooperate with our peers facing the same challenges," he concluded, underlining that cooperation and solidarity have shown particularly essential in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic when local and regional authorities were – and still are - at the frontline to overcome the sanitary, social, economic and political challenges related.
In order to facilitate this sharing of experience, the Congress has developed an online platform "COVID-19: Responses at local and regional levels" which presents solutions implemented by local and regional authorities, partner networks and other organisations.
