The members of Current Affairs Committee met on Tuesday 27 March 2018, in Strasbourg, during the 34th Session of the Congress. They reviewed a report on border regions facing migration phenomena, prepared by Rena DOUROU (Greece, SOC) for which a reflection group has been set up to further examine the issue before adoption at the Committee’s meeting on 19 June 2018 in Strasbourg. The group brings together experts, INGO representatives and Congress members. Members’ attention was drawn to the situation of refugees in the City of Livadia (Greece) through a video presentation explaining the practical measures taken for hosting refugee families, prepared by Panagiou POULOU (L, SOC), mayor of Livadia. The preparation of the 4th edition of the Summit of Mayors organised   in cooperation with the European Forum for Urban Security (EFUS), in the framework of the “Alliance of European cities against violent extremism”, was also on the agenda. The Summit is scheduled to take place in early 2019.
