The members of the Governance Committee of the Congress met in Strasbourg on Tuesday 27 March 2018, on the fringe of the 34th Congress Session. They examined the draft “Guidelines on the right of local authorities to be consulted by higher levels of government” presented by Anders KNAPE (Sweden, EPP/CCE). The Committee also looked at the draft reports on “Protecting WhistleBlowers”, “Coping with the debt burden: local authorities in financial difficulty”, “Financial compensation of local and regional elected representatives and public officials in the exercise of their office”, as well as “Fair distribution of taxes in transfrontier areas”. In addition, the Committee held an exchange of views on the Conference on the use of languages by local and regional authorities which will be organised by the Congress, on 31 May 2018, in Balvanyos, Covasna County (Romania).
