The March 2025 edition of Espaces magazine featured an article on the Cultural Routes programme, entitled: “The Cultural Routes, flagship programme of the Council of Europe”.
The article on the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe aims to promote the programme among tourism professionals, academics and the general public.
Published in hard copy every two months, Espaces magazine also has over 7,000 articles available online. The magazine is well regarded in the leisure and tourism sector, aimed at professionals, students and teachers.
The article outlines the history of the programme and the certification procedure, before celebrating the rich and diverse Cultural Routes, particularly in France. The piece celebrates the Discover the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe e-module, developed in partnership with Atout France, as an innovative means of raising the Routes’ profile in France. The authors challenge the culture, heritage and tourism sectors to follow the lead of the Cultural Routes programme, continuing to innovate in the promotion of Europe’s shared heritage.
France has been a member of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EPA) since 2011 and is one of its founding member states. Today, France is the European country with the largest number of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, with more than 30 Cultural Routes crossing the country and 14 Cultural Routes having their headquarters in France.
Mr Bruno FAVEL, Head of the World Heritage Mission, General Directorate for Heritage and Architecture, Ministry of Culture, and Ms Orane PROISY, Head of the European Heritage Projects and Networks Unit, Ministry of Culture, are France's national representatives on the EPA on the Cultural Routes.
