Indietro Presentation of Needs Assessment Report on the Social and Economic Rights of Older Persons in Georgia

Presentation of Needs Assessment Report on the Social and Economic Rights of Older Persons in Georgia

The preliminary findings of the Needs Assessment Report on the Social and Economic Rights of Older Persons in Georgia were presented at a round table in Tbilisi on 13 September 2024.  The report, prepared in the framework of the Council of Europe's project "Further Enhancement of Social and Economic Rights in Georgia", aims to identify the main gaps and corresponding recommendations for improvement in the country's policies affecting the social and economic rights of older persons. Stakeholders participating at the meeting included representatives from various partners working to protect and promote the social and economic rights of older persons.

The study, carried out by experts from the Council of Europe, involved extensive research, a fact-finding mission and consultations with government representatives, local organisations and international bodies.

Among the key findings of the report is a detailed assessment of the challenges faced by older people, including gaps in social protection, access to services and economic security. It also makes recommendations to align Georgia's policies with the European Social Charter, which promotes a human rights-based approach to ageing. Both the report and the discussions called on stakeholders to implement reforms that improve the quality of life for older persons in line with European standards and best practices.
