European External Action Service: training on economic, social and cultural rights

The European Union External Action Service (EEAS) is organising, in co-operation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Council of Europe, a training on economic, social and cultural rights in Brussels on 20 June 2018.

The training aims at increasing knowledge and awareness about economic, social and cultural rights among staff in the European Union institutions and delegations across the world in order to effectively contribute to the EU’s policy in the field.

Diana Balanescu, Lawyer, Department of the European Social Charter, Council of Europe, will present the rights guaranteed by the European Social Charter and its monitoring mechanism, the role of the European Committee of Social Rights to monitor the respect of social rights and the corresponding State Parties’ obligations. The relation between the European Social Charter and EU law including the European Pillar of Social Rights and relevant case law of the European Committee of Social Rights will also be examined.
