The ICC programme welcomes Sherbrooke (Canada)!

It is with great pleasure that the Intercultural Cities programme announces Sherbrooke’s membership, the second city from Québec (Canada) to join the ICC family and the 145th member of the ICC coalition of inclusive cities!

The sixth largest city in Quebec, Sherbrooke is also the first merged city in Quebec to have adopted a welcoming and integration policy for immigrant people.

Privileged by its proximity to big cities such as Montreal, Quebec City, New York City and Boston, Sherbrooke represents 50% of the regional demographic weight of the Estrie region, of which it is also the cultural, administrative and institutional hub.

Rich in its cultural diversity thanks to the more than 130 communities that make it vibrant, Sherbrooke welcomes some 15,000 citizens of immigrant background, 50% of whom are refugees. This is why the city works hard with many partners to promote intercultural interaction and the diversity advantage.

By joining the Intercultural Cities programme, Sherbrooke aspires to become an even more welcoming and inclusive city! It wishes to become the best in terms of diversity management, more attentive to the needs of its citizens, staff members and partners, and to remove the barriers to the harmonious integration of its newcomers.
