Traineeships
Join us as a trainee and help defend human rights in Europe!
Twice per year we welcome young graduates into the Human Rights and Biomedicine Division as trainees. For them it is a chance to gain valuable experience in a complex multi-cultural and stimulating work environment. As an Organisation, we benefit from the enthusiasm, motivation and skills that new graduates bring.
Who can apply?
In order to be eligible for a traineeship, you must meet the following criteria:
- Have the nationality of one of the Council of Europe member states.
- Have a bachelor's degree or equivalent (a diploma for the first cycle of higher education as defined in the Bologna Declaration).
- Have a desire to acquire practical experience and knowledge of the functioning and activities of the Council of Europe.
- Have a very good knowledge of one of the two Council of Europe official languages (English or French) together with good drafting ability. Good knowledge of the other official language is appreciated.
Please note that if you already were a trainee/study visitor within the Council of Europe (either in Strasbourg or in the field) you may not undertake another traineeship in the Organisation, whatever form it may take.
Internships within the organisation last from eight weeks to five months. There are two official traineeship sessions each year (in March and October).

Use the on-line application system, ensuring that you submit by the due date. Application forms must be completed only in French or English.
Our division is located within the Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law 
Human Rights and Biomedicine Division.
Study visits take place in Strasbourg for a maximum of 8 weeks, subject to the division's capacity.
