Chair of the Committee of Ministers Daniel Mitov and Deputy Secretary General Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni paid an official visit to Georgia in order to hold high-level meetings and to launch the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia for 2016-2019.
In Tbilisi, Daniel Mitov and Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni exchanged views with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze, as well as with the Chair of Parliament David Usupashvili and parliamentarians from majority and opposition parties.
Together with the Georgian Foreign Minister Janelidze, the Chair of the Committee of Ministers and the Deputy Secretary General launched the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia for 2016-2019.
The Action Plan, with a total budget of more than 20 million euros, focuses on protecting and promoting human rights, including social rights; ensuring justice, strengthening democratic governance, as well as developing confidence-building measures and countering corruption, money-laundering, cybercrime and manipulation of sports competitions.
"We highly appreciate the implementation of the previous Action Plan for Georgia and the efforts shown by the local authorities. The latter gives us reasons to believe that the new one will be equally successfully translated into practice", said Daniel Mitov and Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni.
