“I was deeply saddened by the news that journalist Pavel Sheremet has been killed in a car bomb explosion in Kiev. My sincere condolences go to his family and friends and I strongly condemn this vile attack on the life of a journalist and on freedom of the press. Pavel Sheremet was an outstanding representative of independent journalism whose work was acknowledged the world over. I call on the Ukrainian authorities to do everything possible to determine the circumstances of his death and to rapidly bring those responsible to justice.”
