The Committee of Experts of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages held its 80th plenary meeting on 18-20 November 2024 in Strasbourg. During the meeting, the committee adopted the seventh evaluation report on the application of the Charter by Cyprus, which will be transmitted to the authorities for possible comments within a deadline of two months after transmission. The evaluation report and the state comments will then be made public and submitted to the Committee of Ministers.
Special emphasis was put during the meeting on the field of media and new technologies. The Committee of Experts continued the same day its reflection on this topic with an exchange of views on the digital presence of endangered regional or minority languages following the presentation of the indigenous languages’ digital inclusion project by the Motorola and Lenovo Foundation.
Finally, on 20 November, Mihaela Zatreanu, leading expert for the Romani Language Initiative of the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC), presented to the Committee of Experts Romani language textbooks for grades A1, A2 and B1 prepared by ERIAC with the support of the Council of Europe.
