Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland is meeting with Cypriot government officials on Friday to discuss the upcoming Cypriot chairmanship of the Council of Europe (from 22 November 2016 to 19 May 2017).
The chairmanship will address several key human rights issues, from detention of irregular migrants facing deportation, to freedom of expression and new trends on the Internet.
The Secretary General will hold meetings with the following officials:
•The President of Cyprus, Mr Nicos Anastasiades
•The President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris Syllouris
•The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ioannis Kasoulides
•The Minister of Education and Culture, Mr Costas Kadis
Foreign Affairs Minister Kasoulides and Secretary General Jagland will give a media briefing 1 pm at the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Nicosia.
