Description
The Museum of Krakow Saltworks in Wieliczka presents the history of salt mining, the development of mining technology, the history of the salt industry and the history of the city of Wieliczka. The Museum and the entire Wieliczka Salt Mine were inscribed in the World Heritage List in 1978. The underground part of the Museum is the largest of its kind in the World, with miles of galleries, winding stairs, towering halls, groups of sculptures and reliefs carved out of salt, underground chapels, the world's largest wooden mining machine, a 19th-century mining railway for royal visitors, etc.
The Museum of Krakow Saltworks in Wieliczka is an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
