On 12 April the newly elected Bureau of the Steering Committee on Media and Information Society (CDMSI) met in Paris for the 1st meeting of its new mandate.
Its agenda was devoted to the preparation of the 14th plenary meeting of the CDMSI to take place in June under its new mandate (2018-2019). Main discussions rolled on the deliverables expected within the mandate, the future ministerial conference planned in 2020 and the important current issues of artificial intelligence, manipulation of public opinion through social media platforms and the unfortunately ever more up-to-date issue of safety of journalists.
The beginning of a new mandate is always, for a steering committee, the time to flesh out its work plan and identify ways to address the important issues that it will work on.
For the new members of the Bureau, this meeting was the occasion of familiarising themselves with the work and procedures, under the experienced guidance of the Chair, Thomas Schneider, who has been in the Bureau already several years, including as vice-Chair.
