Training on international standards of Freedom of Expression and Access to Information

Twenty-two representatives of relevant institutions at the State, Entity, and Brčko District levels, civil society organisations and independent bodies attended the first training session on Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Information, marking the beginning of efforts to strengthen capacities for human rights-based monitoring and reporting practices in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The training focused on the key concepts of freedom of expression and access to information as prescribed by the international and Council of Europe standards, as well as the European Court of Human Rights case law.

Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of international legal frameworks governing freedom of expression and information, emphasising their direct applicability in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Additionally, the session explored into current legislative patterns in the country, addressing challenges and recent developments. This activity is supported by the project ‘Enhancing institutional capacities on freedom of expression and information in Bosnia and Herzegovina (EFEx)’, implemented by the Council of Europe and funded through the voluntary contribution of Sweden, through the Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency (Sida).
