On June 02, 2023, in the framework of the South Programme V "Protecting human rights, rule of law and democracy through shared standards in the Southern Mediterranean" (South Programme V), FREX-PLUM_ Freedom of Expression and Pluralistic Media, hosted in Tunis, the first training Workshop for the General Authority for Monitoring Media Content (GAMMC), Libya. The launch of the training workshop, the first of its kind with the Libyan partners was assured by Tony Pavlovski Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Tunis, and virtually with Jallel Othman the President of the General Authority for Monitoring Media Content of Libya and Patrick Penninckx, Head of the Information Society Department of the Council of Europe. This training worshop, which targeted the members of GAMMC media monitoring unit aims at better supporting a better understanding the role of the audiovisual regulator, in line with Council of Europe standards. The staff of GAMMC media monitoring unit further learned how the Council of Europe promotes media-regulation in respect of journalistic ethical codes and human rights in the monitoring work as well as to identify what are the fields of improvement for Libyan medias via regulator’s reporting.
