Transparency of media ownership in Moldova enhanced

In its efforts to improve the transparency of media ownership and media registries, with the support of the Council of Europe, the Audiovisual Council of Moldova launches a new, restructured, and improved version of the Media Service Providers and Distributors Registry (online platform) to allow for greater access and transparency on data concerning media providers.

The newly updated Registry concerning media service providers offers detailed information covering four key areas related to media transparency – (1) Registry of all television media service providers; (2) Registry of radio service providers; (3) Registry of re-broadcasted media/cable media, and GSM service distributors; (4) Registry of audiovisual media services that aren’t under the jurisdiction of Republic of Moldova and are re-broadcasted in the country.

The new module will facilitate data visualization and ensure greater transparency regarding TV and radio media services, final owners and beneficiaries, shareholders, administrators, provider classification, validity of broadcasting licenses, as well as information about media service distributors in the country. The public also has access to the list of audiovisual media services that are rebroadcasted in the Republic of Moldova, and their country of origin.

The module launched by the Audiovisual Council in its concerted and on-going efforts to increase transparency of media ownership was created with the support of the Council of Europe. It follows the MAVISE format – a free-to-access database on audiovisual services in 43 countries compiled by the European Audiovisual Observatory.
