EU/CoE Partnership for Good Governance Programme supports the National Institute of Justice in training the judicial staff on identifying and better understanding discrimination, according to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and EU legislation.

Throughout a 1-day online training, organized on the 28^thof October 2020, the participants received the opportunity to consolidate their theoretical knowledge and practice on the interdiction of discrimination, the ECHR and national case-law. Sessions were delivered by international and national consultants - Ivana Roagna (Italy) and Arina Turcan-Dontu (Moldova).

A total number of 39 specialists trained by the Moldovan National Institute of Justice received formation on understanding and defining discrimination, comparators, reasonable and objective justification and on remedies and standard in cases of discrimination. Also, they learned about the ECtHR case-law in the area of prevention and combating discrimination, racism and intolerance. Among the participants were legal assistants, judicial clerks and assistant prosecutors –60% of them are working in the regions.

This activity was organised as part of the assistance provided to the National Institute of Justice, partner institution of the national project “Strengthening the capacities of the justice sector actors to deliver justice in line with European standards, in particular to fight discrimination in the Republic of Moldova”, implemented in the frame of the joint EU/CoE Programme “Partnership for Good Governance II”.
