The response provides information on the manner in which the Belgian authorities are implementing the recommendations made in the CPT's report notably in relation to the treatment of prisoners, conditions of detention in prisons and the provision of care to psychiatric internees. In addition, it contains an update on the steps taken following the public statement issued by the Committee in 2017 and calling for the establishment of a minimum service in prison establishments guaranteeing prisoners' basic rights, particularly during industrial action by prison staff. The response also provides information on the action taken by the Belgian authorities to address the CPT’s recommendations concerning the treatment of persons detained by the police.
