Module 3: Understandings of intercultural encounter
Introduction
An intercultural encounter may mean different things to different people depending on their personal and work contexts. In this module you explore your own understanding of intercultural encounter and that on which the Autobiography of Intercultural Encounters (AIE) is based. You consider the areas of life in which intercultural encounters may take place. Finally you reflect on an intercultural encounter of your own using the AIE to guide you.
Outcomes
By the end of this module you should have:
- Grasped the AIE's definition of intercultural encounter
- Familiarised yourself with a variety of cultural influences on identity formation
- Distinguished between several different ways people respond to cultural difference
